Matcha Powder

Most teas ask you to leave the leaf behind. Matcha doesn't. Shade-grown, stone-ground to powder, the whole leaf goes into every cup. That's why the colour is that green, the depth that concentrated, the energy unlike anything else. From everyday matcha to ceremonial-grade Horai and bold flavoured blends, T2's matcha powder collection runs the full range of what matcha can be.

What makes matcha different

Every other green tea is an infusion, hot water passed through the leaf, extracting what it can before the leaf is discarded. Matcha works differently. The whole leaf is consumed: shade-grown tencha leaves are dried, stripped of stems and veins, then stone-ground into a fine powder that dissolves into the water rather than steeping in it. Everything the leaf contains including chlorophyll, L-theanine, caffeine, amino acids goes into the cup.

That's why matcha is this green. The vivid colour comes from chlorophyll, concentrated through weeks of shade before harvest, then locked in when the leaf is ground rather than steeped and filtered away. It's why the umami depth is more pronounced than in most teas. And it's why the energy feels different: matcha contains both caffeine and L-theanine, an amino acid believed to slow the absorption of caffeine, producing a more sustained, even energy curve than a comparable cup of coffee.

The T2 matcha powder collection

Everyday matcha:

T2's standard matcha is an everyday-grade option — genuine, flavourful, and built for versatility. Smooth enough to drink straight, robust enough to hold its character through milk in a latte, and consistent enough to reach for every morning. Available in 30g and 50g tins and a 50g refill for regular drinkers.

100% certified organic Horai matcha

Horai is something else. Produced in Kagoshima, Japan from a spring harvest shaded for three weeks before picking, it's one of the highest-grade expressions of matcha T2 offers. That shading intensifies chlorophyll and L-theanine, deepening the sweetness, heightening the umami, and creating the vivid, saturated green colour in the tin.

What sets Horai apart from other high-quality matchas is the selection process: rather than drawing from a single garden, the producer evaluates multiple fields and cultivars each season, choosing only the leaves that deliver the right balance of aroma, colour, sweetness, and depth. The result is a cup with a harmony that's rare in matcha. Tea Master Tatsuo Sano, who has been producing matcha with T2 for over a decade, describes it simply as "the pursuit of what matcha can be at its very best." It's made for drinking straight from the bowl, where none of that precision gets lost.

Flavoured matcha

Brown Sugar, White Chocolate, Salted Milkshake, Yuzu, Blood Orange, and Peach each take the same shade-grown base and layer something new through it. The vegetal depth of matcha adds body and complexity behind the sweetness and fruit. The collection's most playful expression, and where T2's instinct for innovation shows most clearly.
