Description
Handcrafted in Japan, the clay used at Kashiwa craft is soft and slowly warps as it matures, creating a naturalness akin to freehand lines. This formulation was achieved through extensive experimentation by the company, who have used the same manufacturing method since their founding in 1965.
Using the soil mined in Seto, a unique blend is applied to the soil and glaze, resulting in a unique texture with a matte feel and intermediate colours. This combination of clay and glaze is the key to Kashiwa Craft's uniqueness, making each piece a one-of-a-kind work of art.

From design to selection of source materials, most of our suppliers are audited through SMETA or BSCI. In some cases, we work with boutique, family-owned businesses in countries such as Portugal, Nepal, and Japan who abide by their own, separate standards.

Sustainable Packaging
Packaging that protects
Almost all of our packaging is recyclable, reusable or compostable and is marked with logos to support correct disposal.
Compostable teabags
Our tea has come packed in compostable teabags since 2021. Made from plant- based materials, both bag and string are made from Polylactic Acid (PLA), with a paper tag printed with vegetable ink. Heat-sealed, they’re also glue and staple-free.
Polylactic Acid is a biodegradable bioplastic made from plant sources – in our case, we've used corn starch.
Compostable shopping bags
Shopping in-store? Our uncoated shopping bags can be recycled (when you’re done reusing them). Please note, there is a small charge for carry bags.
Plant-based polybags
Our loose-leaf tea is wrapped in compostable plant-based polybags, which are compostable. We recommend checking with your local government’s green waste pick up service before placing bioplastics in your home compost bins.
Greener gift wrap
Aside from our stickers, our gift wrap is entirely recyclable.
