Native of Tajimi, a tiny town just outside Nayoga, a young Japanese boy dreams of the summer he spent in Matsuyama, a town on Japan’s smallest island. There, under the hot radiance of the sun, he first fell in love. They spent a glorious summer exploring the island, taking tea from tall tumblers the colour of the ocean and the night sky. When it came time to part, their hearts broke but as he left, she gave him her mirror, a tiny piece she had always carried, and in return, he promised never to forget her.
