Naturally caffeine-free, not decaffeinated
Caffeine is a naturally occurring compound found in the Camellia sinensis plant — the source of all black, green, white, and oolong teas. Herbal teas and fruit tisanes are made from a different set of ingredients entirely: flowers, herbs, spices, roots, and fruit, none of which contain caffeine naturally.
This is worth distinguishing from "decaffeinated" tea. Decaffeinated tea starts as a caffeinated tea and has most of its caffeine removed through a processing step. Naturally caffeine-free teas never contained caffeine to begin with. The flavour profile is different too, where a decaffeinated black tea still tastes like a black tea, herbal and fruit infusions have their own distinct character, shaped by what they're actually made from.
T2's caffeine-free range is entirely naturally caffeine-free: no decaffeination, no processing to remove something that was never there.
Find your note
The caffeine-free range covers a wide flavour spectrum. To find the right cup, start with what you're drawn to.
Cooling and vivid: Peppermint and mint-forward blends are the most direct in the range. Sharp, clean, and immediately present. Good hot or cold, at any point in the day.
Bright and fruity: Peach, pomegranate, strawberry, mango, and berry blends bring sweetness and brightness without acidity. These work well as afternoon cups or chilled as iced teas.
Warm and grounding: Ginger, lemongrass, and spiced herbals like Spi Chai have warmth and depth. They suit mid-morning or afternoon and hold up well with a longer steep.
Soft and floral: Chamomile and rose-led blends are the quietest end of the range. Delicate, warm, and slightly sweet, they sit well on their own without any additions.
Quieter evening cups: The softer, warmer blends, chamomile-led, lavender-touched, and gently spiced for the end of the day when you want something warm in the cup and nothing to keep you going.
FAQs
What is caffeine-free tea?
Caffeine-free tea refers to teas and infusions made from ingredients that naturally contain no caffeine. This includes herbal teas, fruit infusions, and tisanes made from flowers, roots, herbs, spices, and fruit. Unlike decaffeinated tea, which is processed to remove caffeine, naturally caffeine-free teas never contained caffeine to begin with.
What is the difference between caffeine-free and decaffeinated tea?
Decaffeinated tea starts as a caffeinated tea and goes through a processing step to remove most of its caffeine. Caffeine-free tea is made from ingredients that naturally contain no caffeine at all. T2's caffeine-free range is entirely naturally caffeine-free, made from herbs, flowers, fruits, and roots rather than from the Camellia sinensis tea plant.
Is herbal tea always caffeine-free?
Yes, if it is made purely from herbs, flowers, fruits, spices, or roots rather than from the Camellia sinensis tea plant. All teas in T2's caffeine-free collection are naturally free from caffeine. If a tea contains green tea, black tea, matcha, or yerba mate, it will contain caffeine even if it is blended with herbal ingredients.
What T2 caffeine-free teas work well in the evening?
The softer, warmer blends in the collection suit the end of the day particularly well: chamomile-led blends, floral herbals, and the quieter fruit infusions. For a warmer, more grounding evening cup, ginger and lemongrass blends also work well. All are naturally caffeine-free, so none will interfere with winding down.
Can T2 caffeine-free teas be made cold?
Yes, in two ways depending on the tea. T2's Peachberry and Mango Mint cold brews are specifically designed for cold brewing: add to cold water and steep in the fridge for 6–12 hours for a clean, flavourful result without bitterness.
For all other caffeine-free teas, T2's Jug A Lot makes iced tea straightforward. Add 8–12 teaspoons of tea to the built-in stainless steel infuser, fill the jug halfway with water at the tea's recommended temperature, and steep for the recommended time. Remove the infuser, leave the lid ajar to let the steam escape while it cools, then refrigerate for an hour before adding ice to serve. The 1.75L jug fits neatly into most fridge doors and makes enough to share.
Does caffeine-free tea taste different from regular tea?
Yes. Naturally caffeine-free teas are made from entirely different ingredients to black, green, or oolong teas, so the flavour profile is distinct. Rather than the malt, grass, or astringency of tea-plant-based teas, herbal and fruit infusions taste of what they're made from: peppermint, chamomile, ginger, peach, pomegranate, and so on. The range is broad enough to find something for any palate.
