Scintillating Spearmint Tea

A cup of sweetly subtle spearmint tea will dance across your tastebuds with the rhythmic moves of a slightly sassy Samba in comparison to peppermint tea’s fiery Pasodoblé. Spearmint is the minty tea you choose when peppermint tea has a little too much pop!

What is spearmint tea?

Spearmint tea is an herbal tea - or herbal tisane as it is technically called - harvested from the Mentha Spicata plant. It has spear shaped leaves and a minty aroma. Spearmint tea doesn’t have a bold, brassy character like peppermint tea - it has a gentler approach, perhaps a touch more introverted than the out-there peppermint taste.

How do you make spearmint tea?

At T2 spearmint is a partner-in-crime to several delightfully fresh tea blends, including:

Brewing times and temperatures for teas do vary. In this case, Detox, Gone Surfing and Mint Mix like to paddle about for between three and five minutes in hot-to-trot 100°C water, but Oolong Fresh is the rebel, preferring three to six minutes at a steamy 80°C.

To make spearmint loose leaf tea you’ll need tea tools like a teapot with an infuser or a tea strainer, a tea mug with infuser, or a T2 tea maker. Next steps:

  1. Boil the kettle to 80°C or 100°C, depending on the tea.
  2. Add a scoop or teaspoon of loose leaf tea per cup to your T2 teapot, tea maker or tea mug infuser.
  3. Pour in the boiling water and steep for between three and five or six minutes.
  4. Remove the infuser and pour into your favourite T2 mug or tea cup while inhaling the marvellously minty-fresh fragrance!
