This is Bonnie and Neil’s second full teaset for T2. Can you tell us a bit about your design/creation process this time around, and how it differed to last time?
The approach for our last teaset used a composition of realistic photographic elements incorporating native birds and flora with foil highlights, which is a similar approach to some of our classic Bonnie and Neil designs. This time around our focus was on a full coverage hand-painted design connecting two of my passions: garden florals and painting them!
What inspired your design this time around?
While Bonnie and Neil products have always incorporated original hand-painted designs, our more recent collections have really showcased this style which we not only enjoy creating but our customers also love. We’ve also been extending our product suite with the aim of “getting pattern on every surface” so this teaset presented another way we could do that.
What are some of your favourite trends for SS18?
We don’t tend to be trend focused – especially as we will never stop loving bold colour! But this season's trends of green and nature-inspired colours, as well as a return to bold colour and maximalism really resonate with us. More is more in our book.
What’s your favourite way to entertain in summer?
Neil and I both enjoy entertaining. We’ve actually just moved house, so this will be the first summer in our new home which we’re really looking forward to. For us summer entertaining starts with a cocktail, then a long lazy brunch, lunch or dinner where the party flows from the kitchen and dining area into the garden. Lots of seasonal food, share plates, fresh fruit and amazing wine! Our table is always set with Bonnie and Neil napery, fresh flowers and tableware that we’ve collected over the years.
What is it about the T2 and Bonnie and Neil brands that are so complementary?
Our shared love of colour. As well as desire to do things differently, continually innovate and being prepared to take risks.
If you were throwing a summer do, how would you style the latest T2 × Bonnie and Neil teaset?
There must be flowers! Not only are they the hero of this design, but the tea rose and magnolia are such beautiful blooms in their own right they should feature as part of the tea table setting. I would pick up on the gold highlights on the teaset through napery (we use gold leaf in our screen printing process for napkins, tablecloths and table runners) and complement this with colourful glassware.
Can you tell us a bit about your favourite tea ritual and what tea means to you?
For me, having a cuppa means relaxation, an opportunity for me to gather my thoughts. One of my favourite times to do this is a Saturday morning while setting the table for brunch with friends and easing into the weekend. Our weeks are so busy at the studio so we really cherish every moment of downtime at home!
